Twenty four years ago,I had a beautiful little boy. He was very healthy at first. Then he was hospitalized at 10 months old with a very rare blood disease. They tried anything they could think of to save him.
The doctors decided to try to “wash” the bad blood out by replacing all of the blood in his body. It was a complete blood transfusion, and they did this for a few weeks, which (if I remember correctly) took over 40 units of blood.
We did end up losing our precious boy, but I felt that I would never be able to thank all of the people who donated that blood for him.
Now, when ever I have the chance, I donate blood. I have not kept track of how much I have donated over the years. I just feel that I need to give back, maybe I can save another child.
