In 1994, my nine-month-old son had to have open-heart surgery. He had some trouble and ended up on the ECMO machine for two days. He also needed a lot of blood. If donors had not given, we would have lost him right off. Even though he did not make it past the third day. I am greatful for the time extended by blood donors. I give as often as possible. I even do doubles now that I am able. It is the one thing I can do to help.
