Many years ago my little brother needed open heart surgery. That procedure would require several units of blood. I had sometimes donated blood but his need prompted me to get serious with giving blood.
Since then I have donated five or six times a year for a total of 128 times or sixteen gallons.
Last year about this time I was found to have Prostate cancer. It was a very early case and was quickly treated. Sometime next year I will again be eligible to donate.
When I recruit others to give they often ask me if I am afraid of the needle. My reply is that I have not yet seen it in any of the 128 times.
