More To Give

My school has a blood drive in the high school every year, and I thought that when you went into high school you could donate. Well, it turned out you had to be 18. Due to a lot of students wanting to donate but not being old enough, we got the rule changed and you can be 16 to donate. My junior year was my first time. I was 17. My friend signed up with me. I was so excited to give blood, until I went into the room where they were taking the blood. There were people sitting back on these chairs and bags attached to their arms and filling with blood. I cringed and was so scared. Well it came to be my turn and I went back behind a partition for some private questions. When they were done they had to prick my finger to test my iron. It hurt a little bit, and then it was off to the blue chairs. I sat down and I leaned back. The nurse asked if I wanted her to tell me when she would put it in or just do it? I said “Just go for…” and before the sentence was even out she had stuck the needle in. I gave my first pint of blood. I felt a little dizzy afterwards but it was allright because I gave blood. I got a card in the mail later saying I had O positive blood, my blood is compatible with any other blood type. They need it most, so when the blood drive came around again in May, I gave for the second time. The funny thing is, the finger prick hurts the most. And I think everytime to myself that I can endure a little finger prick and loose a pint of blood to help someone live.
