Last March, my 6-year-old grandson, Anthony, was involved in a head-on scooter-automobile accident as a passenger on the scooter. He received multiple injuries, including 4 pelvic fractures with internal bleeding. The source of the bleeding could not be determined until he had exploratory surgery and the doctors found he was bleeding from the fractures. He received 3 pints of blood during the first 24-hours after the surgery and would not have recovered without it. I used to give blood, but due to cancer therapy can no longer do so. I am grateful to the donors who provided the blood that helped him continue his life.
