I Gave and Received…

When I was 17, I donated blood at my high school blood drive. I felt so excited to be able to do it (with my parents consent, of course) and was blessed to know that I could be saving someone’s life in the process. Then about 6 months after I graduated, I got into a very serious freeway chain-reaction car accident. I had no external problems/injuries but a few scraps and scratches when you looked at me. I didn’t know until after all the hospital checks were done that I  had very serious liver lacerations. I lost a lot of blood, and was losing blood, as I laid on the hospital bed. I was rushed to have an angiogram and was given a few bags of blood to make up what I lost, then stayed in the hospital for the next 10 days. I am perfectly fine now after 6 years and very thankful for the people who did donate blood. I always wonder (every now and then), was one of those bags of blood my own? I don’t think I would ever know, but always remember, “What goes around, comes around.” If you do something good without expecting something back, something good will come back to you twice as good. In my case, I donated one pint of blood and got back two. It helped save my life.
